With three festivals in the past month under my belt, this past weekend marked the start of a break from festivals for until September. (Insert sad face here.) This means I finally had the time to sit down in front of my computer and put together some mini-reviews and photo gallery links for you all! Enjoy. 🙂

With artists like Yukon Blonde, The Funk Hunters & Chali 2Na and Humans on the bill this year, Tall Tree is proving itself as one of the mainstays of the festival circuit. This year marked Tall Tree’s sixth year, boasting new features such as a comedy stage, and late night food vendors. With three days of world-class music and amazing scenery on top of a mountain in gorgeous Port Renfrew B.C., Tall Tree is always one for the books!

Rock the Shores never ceases to bring artists to Vancouver Island that you never imagined you’d get the chance to see live (or photograph!). This year boasted a bill filled with acts such as Jane’s Addiction, The Black Keys, TV on the Radio, Bleachers, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and more. Right in the peak summer weather, Rock the Shores is the perfect weekend to knock back a few locally-brewed beers with some major artists as your soundtrack.

Phillips Brewery

The Phillips Backyard weekender feels more like an epic backyard bash than a festival. For one weekend every July, Phillips’ loading docks and brewery “backyard” transform in a venue fit for a few thousand people and three days of stellar music. There’s something for everyone, from reggae (Easy Star All Stars), to hip hop (Talib Kweli, Watsky, Bliss N Eso), to indie rock (Little India, BESTiE) to major players in the Canadian music scene like U.S.S. and Dan Mangan.
